Brambles is a deeply personal collection of songs chronicling the effect of a  two-year abusive relationship that followed the death of her mother. Combining baroque roots with a modern pop edge, James transforms pain into power through dramatic melodies and emotionally charged lyrics.

“Writing Brambles helped me process something I never thought I’d have to experience. These songs are pieces of the grief, confusion, and shame I carried, and the clarity and strength I found on the other side. If even one person hears this and feels less alone, or starts to believe they deserve safety and love, then it’s worth it,” says James.

Produced by Lisa Patterson and JUNO Award-winning producer Michael Wojewoda, Brambles features unique instrumentation like bodhrán (a traditional Celtic drum) and electric harp run through guitar pedals, creating a genre-defying, mystical aesthetic that’s both catchy and cathartic.
